Welcome to Chef Tatung's Home
It was a lovely Friday evening where I, together with the entire Yummy team, traveled all the way to the unfamiliar streets of Quezon City to have a special dinner hosted by Chef Myke Tatung Sarthou. Following directions given by tricycle drivers, we finally found his home and was warmly welcomed by Chef Tatung himself.
I love the interiors of his home -- it has a mix of old and new furniture pieces that gives the entire place a unique personality yet giving you that comfort feeling that you can unwind and relax while enjoying the special dinner that Chef Tatung will prepare for that evening.
Chef Tatung opened his home last June and has been serving different 4-course dinners only every Friday. Reservations are required as his place is good only for 20 guests. His 4-course dinner is at Php 500 per head and is inclusive of your drink of choice.
That evening, our dinner began with a basket of homemade bread and butter. I love the milky bread with poppy seed and we even asked Chef for a second refill because everyone just wants to have more! It was so soft and warm that we all enjoyed it even without spreading butter on to the bread.
Next was the light and refreshing French Onion Soup. Let me tell you that due to my crazy hyper-acidity acting up once in a while, I try to avoid taking this soup as I normally just end up wincing in pain the morning after. I took a careful sip and noticed that the acidity of the onion was almost not noticeable. Chef told us that he cooked the stock for 10 hours which is probably why the soup was very flavorful. Also, I didn't feel any pain days after. Chef Tatung's French Onion Soup was truly a winner!
For our salad, we had a mix of Smoked Salmon on Potato Pancakes and Red Beet Salad. I love the fluffiness of the pancakes and it's best eaten with a slice of salmon and dill sauce on top. The Red Beet Salad has the right crunch due to the nuts added on top. If beets are this good, I can have it all day long!
While Chef Tatung's serving may seem small at first, be ready for his main course of Stuffed Pork Loin with Prunes and Potato Wedges. Halfway through our main course, most of us felt stuffed already. However, we all still wanted to finish this delicious dish as we loved the tender pork loin and demiglace sauce that Chef had to cook for 14 hours. I love the crunchy filling which came as a surprised as I do not like eating prunes at all.
For dessert was Chef Tatung's Homemade Apple Pie ala Mode. We enjoyed this with our choice of coffee or tea. The ambiance was very quiet and relaxing which was a perfect way to end our work week. The pie has a very strong cinnamon flavor yet I love the warm apple slices that you get in every bite.
I can't wait to go back to Chef Tatung's home this time with my family. His menu varies every Friday so better subscribe to his Facebook page to get the latest update.
Thank you Chef Tatung for welcoming us into your lovely home.
