Specialty's Cafe & Bakery in Irvine, California
During the first leg of my US trip, my colleague L and I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Irvine. Irvine, is actually like the central business district of California where tall skyscrapers line up the streets and it's relatively more quiet here at any given part of the day simply because everyone is busy at work.
On our first work day, L and I decided to start early by walking around the neighborhood in search for a good place to have breakfast. Thanks to the friendly hotel staff, he directed us towards Specialty's Cafe & Bakery which he says serves pretty good coffee.
It was a good two minute walk from Crowne Plaza but we can already feel the cold California air blowing on our faces. We hurriedly rushed towards the coffee shop and was welcomed by the warm heated air inside.
I love the feel of Specialty's coffee. It's like your neighborhood coffee shop where you line up to place your order, get handed a pager and wait for it to buzz after, you can even sit by the fireplace while enjoying your cup of coffee. Most busy restaurants in California uses this beeper system which makes it easier for customers to keep track of when their food is ready.
L wanted to try the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich ($4.29) while I preferred the Sausage, Egg and Cheese ($4.49). We eventually decided to share to be able to try both variants.
I enjoyed my sandwich a lot! The crusty bread and the tender sausage that reminds me that of McDonald's Sausage McMuffin. The egg was cooked light and fluffy just the way I like it. I'm sure it would go perfectly well with a cup of hot coffee but sadly, I chose to just enjoy it with my cool bottled water wish I ordered orange juice with it.
I'm glad we had enough time to slowly enjoy our breakfast. The cozy atmosphere surely makes you feel like time could stand still as you enjoy your sandwich or any of their baked products.
L and I enjoyed our breakfast at Specialty's very much that we initially agreed to have breakfast again here the next day.
