Witnessing the break of dawn at McDonald’s Drive-Thru

3:30 AM, onboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J 311

My short one-hour and a half nap was interrupted with this message from the pilot:

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Local time is 30 minutes past the hour of three in the morning … I’d like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board Cebu Pacific again.”

Yes, I am finally back in Manila and my amazing three day vacation in Taipei has finally come to an end. I was feeling a bit light-headed as sleeping in the airplane was not exactly what I’d call comfortable nevertheless; our flight was pretty smooth all throughout.

After speeding past through immigration and customs, we found Mommy and our driver Kuya M waiting for us at the Arrival Gate. Traffic was non-existent at this hour so we were able to zoom pass EDSA in minutes. Arriving at our neighborhood, I asked Mommy if we can grab something to eat. Obviously, everything was close at this hour. That was until I saw the bright yellow arches from a distance. Yay, McDonald’s Wilson is open 24/7 and enjoying my favorite Longganisa with Rice Meal sounded like a good idea.

Kuya M made a left turn and we went up the ramp towards their drive-thru speakers. Ever since I was a kid, I always enjoy going through McDonald’s Drive-Thru be it after school or during the weekend. The sight of those bright yellow arches just makes my heart leap.

Welcome to McDonald’s!” This was the cheerful greeting of the girl behind the speaker. It was 3 in the morning and she still manages to give out a happy greeting. I knew what I wanted that I just dictated it automatically – “Two Longganisa with Rice Meals with Orange Juice please.”

I love McDonald’s Longganisa with Rice Meal as they can make their longganisa (sausage) very tender and flavorful. I wonder how they make it. It’s actually good to eat even without the staple vinegar dip. The rice was very hot and I love how they can add a good amount of garlic bits into it.

The egg is another thing to rave about. Its poach creating a perfect circle with just the right amount of egg white surrounding a light yellow yolk. I enjoy adding some tomato ketchup on top of this and it makes the meal simply perfect.

McDonald’s never fails to brighten my morning as I always look forward to enjoying their breakfast fare even if it means having to wake up early. Aside from the Longganisa with Rice Meal, I also love their Sausage McMuffin with Egg, one that I always also get when abroad, their crunchy hash browns and the hearty Big Breakfast Meal. It’s also so easy to enjoy your McDonald’s meal be it via their drive-thru alley, through phone delivery or by dining in.

Let McDonald’s be a part of your vacation at whatever point it may be. You can easily drop by a McDonald’s store on your way to your destination, perhaps call for delivery when the resort food just doesn’t catch your fancy or just like me, feel just right at home by enjoying your first meal without having to leave your car via their very efficient drive-thru.
