Starbucks Coffee : Hot Lunch Sandwiches
One thing is for sure... blogging with an empty stomach can be hazardous to your health. I'm typing this before having breakfast and I can literally hear my stomach growling like a mad lion.
To torture me even further, I am about to share with you something so delicious that the thought of it can really make my mouth water (and my stomach rumble louder).
Yes, I'm such a sadist. *sigh*
Last Monday, Paul and I were invited by my former colleagues of Starbucks Coffee to try a couple of new lunch sandwiches that they will be launching soon. I was so excited as knowing my talented friend C, who takes care of R&D for our local Starbucks food items, these sandwich are sure to be delicious!
I remember back when I was still working for the Green Siren and C was working on those breakfast sandwiches, oh how I enjoyed hanging out with her at the training room as I watch her heat up samples after samples of sandwiches and she would generously share them with me. Now you know why I love C very very much! ♥
Anyway, the moment Paul and I arrived at the store, we saw plates of sandwiches on the table. Of course, to follow the usual Starbucks Coffee ritual, we began with a coffee tasting session. I have seriously lost touch with my coffee sense as I had a hard time distinguishing the unique characteristics of the coffee. :( Really need to practice some more.
Finally, it was C's turn and she began by making us try the Ultimate Grilled Cheese (Php. 140). It was pretty light despite having 6 different types of cheeses inside -- Feta, Gruyere, Emmenthal, Provolone, Mozzarella and Cheddar. I love cheese and I wonder how it could taste like to have Brie or Bleu Cheese inside.
We were halfway through our cheese sandwich when L came and gave us a small slice of Roasted Chicken Pesto with Shiitake Mushroom on Flat Bread (Php. 140). I love pesto and I enjoyed the strong aroma of basil in this sandwich. The chicken was tender and the shiitake mushroom gave it a smoky taste. I'm glad C tried using flat bread as it reminds me of my favorite panini sandwiches.
That's two sandwiches down and five more to go!! I seriously have to watch my every bite.
The next one was a healthy sandwich perfect for the vegetarians. The Roasted Vegetables on Flat Bread (Php. 140) has an assortment of Mediterranean vegetables such as carrots, zucchini, onions and bell peppers. It has a slight spicy flavor with the inclusion of a mild chili dressing. Not really my favorite as I'm not too fond of the vegetables included in this sandwich but I'm sure my Mommy will enjoy this a lot!
From the vegetarians, we go to the sandwich every meat lover will enjoy -- the Beef Brisket Sandwich (Php. 140). When C told me that she came up with a Beef Brisket Sandwich, in my mind, I was expecting to have a sandwich filled with chunky beef similar to my favorite Delimondo corned beef. Instead, I got cold cuts like filling in my sandwich topped with caramelized onions and Emmenthal cheese. Quite different yet it's definitely a must-try.
While enjoying our sandwiches, we were told that all four sandwiches will be available in all Starbucks stores nationwide. This means, you can enjoy any of these sandwiches whether you're here in Metro Manila or traveling to Ilo-ilo or Davao.
However, there are also some sandwiches that may be enjoyed in select outlets only:
I grew up enjoying the clubhouse sandwich. This is my Kongkong's (grandfather) favorite and he would make it a point to order this for the entire family to share after spending hours on the pool. I love the good ol' clubhouse sandwich with hotdog, ham, chicken, egg and veggies. The challenge lies in being able to bite into all 3 bread slices without having the filling spill out on the other side.
Starbucks Coffee will also launch their own version of The Clubhouse Sandwich (Php. 140). It makes use of flat cranberry bread and is filled to the brim with tender chicken breast, honey ham, cheese slices, tomatoes and a special mayo mustard dressing. It may not not taste like the Clubhouse sandwich that I grew up to but it was pretty good nonetheless.
Here's my favorite -- call it love at first bite. This is the Tuna Waldorf on Raisin Walnut Bread (Php. 140). Note that I am not a fan of raisin bread. In fact, I would even patiently remove every single raisin whenever I'm given this type of bread.
So it was a big surprise especially for Paul to hear me raving about this sandwich. I guess it's because I love the delicious tuna salad filling tossed with red and green apples, chopped walnuts, celery, hard-boiled eggs and mixed with yogurt mayo dressing. I simply love fruits on my sandwich and I love how the crispy apple slices have contributed in making the sandwich juicy and sweet. I was so lucky to get extra slices to take home which I happily enjoyed for the next two days. I'm also happy to note that it still tasted delicious even after reheating it at home.
These two sandwiches are available in all Starbucks stores except stores in Baguio, Boracay, Bacolod, Cebu, CDO, Davao, Iloilo and Naga.
While readers from the provinces may be missing these two sandwiches, we Metro Manila citizens won't be able to enjoy this one good sandwich that will only be available in the Starbucks provincial outlets.
The Tuna Melt on Rye Bread (Php. 140) is quite similar to my favorite Tuna Waldorf only without the apple slices and hard-boiled egg. This is a perfect combination of healthy tuna salad and creamy melted cheese toasted on top of Rye bread. It's my second favorite that I can't wait to try this when I visit Bacolod in a few months.
These new hot lunch sandwiches will be available starting August 9. Thank you Starbucks Coffee for always coming out with exciting drinks and food items!
