Passion at Maxims Tower, Resorts World Manila
Resorts World Manila (RWM) is quickly becoming Manila's go-to place when it comes to offering top-notch entertainment. Having one of the biggest casinos in town, a number of casino players all over the country would fly in to visit RWM. It's also a venue for friends and family to enjoy a good meal. Resorts World Manila has three hotels within the vicinity -- the 4-Star Remington Hotel, the 5-Star Marriott Hotel and the 6-Star Maxims Tower. It actually reminds me of City of Dreams in Macau where its adjacent to the Hard Rock Hotel, Crown Towers and Grand Hyatt Macau. Of course, there's also the Newport Mall where you can watch a movie in one of their Lazyboy theaters or to do some shopping too.
For us though, we focus more on the food! One evening, Paul and I had dinner with his cousins at Passion -- a famous Chinese Restaurant located at the Maxims Tower. We've dined here a number of times already as my in-laws seem to love it. Top favorites include the Hainanese Chicken, the Ostrich with Black Pepper Honey Sauce and the Stir-Fried Sweet and Sour Pork with Fruits. It was actually here at Passion where I had my first taste of Ostrich meat...which was after a long deliberation after much hesitations.
Most of us are used to dining at formal Chinese restaurants with our parents wherein we just leave the ordering to them and we simply just enjoy whatever is served on the table. This is something new where we had to go through the menutwice thrice four times, do a couple of eenie-meenie-miney-moes until we finally had our final list of orders.
Luckily, our server was very helpful as he gave us a couple of recommendations and even his personal opinion. We were a group of 12 so we opted to get mostly the medium size platters to share. Here's what we had that evening:
Stir-Fried Sweet and Sour Pork with Fruits (Php. 597 - medium)
A number of us requested for this! I personally love the crunchy thin strips of pork as its glazed with thick sweet and sour sauce and mixed with chopped fresh fruits! It's very refreshing and quite addicting. We loved it so much that we got another order of this in the same size.
Hainanese Chicken - Whole (Php. 908)
The chicken meat was tender but quite lacking in flavor. Just okay, lah.
Ostrich with Black Pepper Honey Sauce (Php. 688 - small)
I was only able to try a small piece and it was tender and free of odor. The broccoli was delicious too thus I highly recommend that you ask that they add broccoli into this dish which is free of charge anyway.
Wok-Fried Kailan with Minced Salted Fish (Php. 586 - medium)
My cousin-in-law M requested for this and upon taking a bite I can see why he loves it very much. I find the fresh kailan crunchy and the slightly salty flavor brought upon by salted fish and garlic was just yummy! This gives a good balance to your meal.
New Zealand Beef Spare Ribs with Black Pepper Sauce (Php. 488)
This is one of the Chef's Recommendations and I'm so glad that we ordered this. It's the best dish of the evening and it seems to be everyone's favorite too! We loved it so much that similar to the Sweet and Sour Pork, we ordered another casserole too. The meat was just so tender and the sauce was bursting with flavor. Be ready with a bowl of Plain Rice (Php. 60) as it goes perfectly with it. I join the Chef in recommending this! Definitely a must-try!
I love Passion's modern Chinese interiors. It has a big sitting capacity making it a good option for weddings, engagements, family reunions and birthday celebrations. Passion also has a lunch Dimsum Eat-All-You-Can Promotion everyday for only Php. 750 nett. Paul and I are excited to try this very soon!
