All-Time American Favorites at T.G.I. Friday's, Philippines
It's Friday and it's definitely TGIF!
I know it's still a work day but somehow, waking up on a Friday gives me that happy feeling that the weekend is less than 24 hours away. Don't get me wrong, I love the weekdays too but to be able to have two full days where I can wake up later than usual, to lounge by our pool in hopes that I'd finally get a tan, to eat out and to catch the latest movie... who wouldn't look forward to the weekend?
Today, let me talk about one of my all-time favorites when it comes to fun, casual American dining experience -- TGI Friday's. T.G.I.F., as my mom would call it, is the perfect place for groups to come together. Every time I dine there, I see families, colleagues or friends enjoying a big platter of nachos, sharing the pasta or burger and others would cap the night off with some drinks. I can still remember how fascinated I was with the button pins that adorns the uniforms of the server that at some point, I really wanted to work there for one summer just to have the excuse to show of my personal button pin collection. Teehee..
A few months ago, I was able to go back to T.G.I. Fridays with my former colleagues. Let me share with you what we had that day:
We just love this appetizer that consists of all our Friday's favorites -- Potato Skins, Mozzarella Sticks and Buffalo Wings. In fact, it was because of this platter I was able to to have my first taste of these yummy starters and I've been hooked since! I love the Mozzarella Sticks with the Sour Cream and Salsa Dip. Yum yum!
To have a good balance to our meal, we tried the Citrus Shrimp Summer Salad which was indeed very refreshing but sadly a bit boring too. There were just about 4-5 shrimps, a few mango slices all on top of one kind of lettuce. That was about it. I'd still go for their Caesar Salad anyday.
Not quite satisfied with the shrimps found in the salad, we ordered this pasta for two reasons: to have more shrimps and to try what our server claims to be their best-selling pasta dish. I was happy with this one and liked the creamy spicy alfredo sauce. Sadly, some of my colleague do not like cream-based pasta which is the same case with Paul and my parents so I just get to have this either when I'm with Pan or with other groups of friends.
Notice that all of our dishes had seafood in it. That's what happens when you leave the ordering to me. I really love seafood so without noticing it, I ended up ordering all from the same kind. Oopsie! I'm glad my colleagues didn't mind as we enjoyed this crispy, deep-fried fish with Friday's signature fries. It was a bit too oily but definitely a yummy dish to have nonetheless.
Once again, no meal is complete without ending it with dessert. T.G.I. Friday's is known for their Mocha Mud Pie which is a scoop of coffee ice cream frozen in a chocolate cookie crust and topped with hot fudge and almond slices. I'd call it a work of art and just the thought of it makes my mouth water. I'm pretty sure it has the same effect on you too!
Dining at T.G.I. Friday's brings back a lot of fun memories that I've shared with my friends and family. I can't keep count of the number of times I've celebrated someone's birthday there and there were some years where I had my birthday dinner there as well. Once, we even had a despedida party for a good friend in high school who left for Canada. It was the go-to place for high schoolers then and at present, still the same go-to place for young professionals who just wants to relax and unwind be it in the middle of a work day or after work.
