Pizzeria Mozza in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
One thing that got me excited about checking out the local food scene here in Singapore is the fact that I'll also be able to dine at restaurants owned by Celebrity Chefs! For years, I've been following Mario Batali, Wolfgang Puck and Jamie Oliver on TV. Who would have thought that the day would come wherein I now have the chance to be able to dine at their restaurants anytime I want! This is definitely a foodie's dream come true. ♥
So, on our first month in the Lion City, Paul and I were reunited with my college friend T and the love of her life S at (where else?!) Pizzeria Mozza! Pizzeria Mozza is located right adjacent to its sister-restaurant Osteria Mozza which is also owned by the same trio (Mario Batali, Nancy Silverston and Joe Bastianich). However, both offers different menus and it somehow gives a different vibe too. Pizzeria Mozza boasts of a long list of pizza combinations, a couple of paninis and starters. It has a more casual vibe and here you'll see groups of friends dining and enjoying a fun meal. Over to Osteria Mozza, it is a bit more high-end with dishes averaging at S$30 thus making it a date place option. Both restaurants are dimly lit so my apologies for the dark photos below.
As we were going through the menu, we were given a basket of complimentary bread sticks which were really yummy and garlicky! I love how it was packaged inside an envelope. So cool! Since one starter is not enough, we got a plate of Chicken Wings alla Diavolo (S$18) to share. It's a simple deep-fried chicken done the Italian way. True, nothing quite unique about it but we noticed that it had a strong spicy kick perking up our taste buds for the meal ahead.
Of course, what's a meal at Pizzeria Mozza without pizza? We tried the Burrata, Slow Roasted Tomatoes & Sicilian Oregano (S$30) as well as the Fennel Sausage, Panna, Red Onion & Scallions (S$29).
The first pizza was my personal choice as I love anything and everything with burrata. Burrata is a kind of fresh Italian cheese which is a mix of mozzarella and cream. It's incredibly rich and delicious. The thing with burrata though is you have to consume it right away to maximize on its freshness. Look how generous they were with our burrata on our pizza! I love how the creamy and salty cheese complemented the tangy tomatoes. It's a simple pizza packed with so much flavor! I ♥ it!
We ordered the second pizza specifically to satisfy the two men in the table. Topped with chunks of fennel sausage, both Paul and S obviously enjoyed this one more the other. I liked how well-spiced the fennel sausage was and it wasn't too heavy since it was topped with more veggies and herbs too. Normally, I don't eat the crust but I love how yummy Pizzeria Mozza's crust was. Crusty and slightly toasted on the outside and really chewy inside. We asked for a plate of olive oil, vinegar and cheese for us to dip the top crust into. Yum!
The pizza comes in only one size which is good for 2 people to share. Since we were feeling a bit hungry still and we wanted to chit-chat some more, we got the Chicken Livers with Capers, Parsley and Panchetta Bruschetta (S$17). I've never had bruschettas this loaded before! The creamy chicken liver was so delicious and it was literally bursting with so much savory notes as contributed by the capers, parsley and salty panchetta.
We truly enjoyed our meal at Pizzeria Mozza and noted how attentive our server was. How I wish Mario Batali was present when we dined there then it would have made our dining experience definitely one for the books! Nonetheless, we all had a great time and since that amazing night, I've been back at Pizzeria Mozza a couple more times enjoying our meal every single time. In addition to the ones mentioned above, I also love the Caramel Copetta with Marshmallow Sauce and Spanish Salted Peanuts. I tell you, this is the BEST dessert in the world (well, in my own Frannywanny world that is haha)!
Pizzeria Mozza is located at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, B1- 42-46 (across the Mastercard Theatre), 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore. (MRT: Bayfront). Call them at 6688-8522
