[CONTEST ALERT! ] Happy Hour with Morganfield's Singapore
If there's one thing the Normanton Kids (NKids) have in common, it's definitely our love for good food. In fact, most of our weekends would basically have us food tripping or enjoying a good home cooked meal while watching a movie. So, when I invited the NKids out for a fun night at Morganfield's on a Monday evening, it was no surprise that I immediately got their YESes within minutes. They're definitely a fun bunch to eat out with!
Morganfield's recently opened their second branch in Suntec City and we were all ready to enjoy slabs after slabs of ribs, fries and more! Being fans of western food, this is something that we rarely get to indulge in here in the Lion City. After all, Morganfield's is known to be the home of the Sticky Bones.
You know that you're in for a good meal when it begins with some Homemade Cinnamon Candied Bacon (S$8.90). Well, this is one thing that bacon fans will go wild about. Who would have thought that you can sweeten up a piece of bacon and it will still taste as heavenly..maybe even better, in my opinion. This was so good that we got two orders of this. Even C gave his approval as it's really something very unique and yummy.
We also tried the Grilled Bacon Wrapped Prawns (S$15.90) which was also delicious! The prawns had a good juicy bite and the bacon wasn't too overpowering and has successfully complemented the taste of the prawn. A bit on the expensive side for just 5 pieces but I recommend that you still go for this!
As for the Popcorn Pork (S$8.90), this is probably the only starter that I wasn't too crazy about. It's deep-fried pork popcorn which would probably go well with any alcoholic drink but since I'm having my Virgin Mojito, I was happy munching on the bacon instead.
Salad lovers should try the Caesar (S$12.90) which was a refreshing platter of chopped romaine lettuce, bacon, croutons, cheese and Morganfield's homemade caesar salad dressing. It was good but personally, if they added in some chopped up cinnamon candied bacon instead of the normal one, it would probably had made this salad even more interesting. Nonetheless, I had a generous serving of the salad which was a good side dish to our mouthwatering ribs platter.
Next on the list was the Sauteed Mushroom (S$9.90) which was a good, healthy side. King mushrooms sauteed with Merlot garlic butter and generously sprinkled with parmesan cheese. I should have added this to our salad which I think would go well together.
We also had the Russet Potato Skins (S$9.90). Thin potato wedges topped with cheese and (make a wild guess....) BACON! Oh, all throughout my meal, I can't help but think of my friends Spanky and Richie who are big bacon fans! :) I should remember to take them here when they visit.
Introducing the Ocean Feast (S$116.90) -- Full slab of Smoked Peppercorn Sticky Bones, Beer Battered Fish Fillet, Tequila grilled Prawns, Grilled Sausage, Corn on the Cob, Garden Salad, Corn Bread and Fries.
If only you can personally see how HUGE this platter was! Look at I ready to dig in. It was big enough for the 5 of us to share. I enjoyed the fork tender sticky bones which I'm pretty sure would be even better if you use your hands to eat but since I'm majorly OC about it, I just used my fork and knife and tried my hardest to clean every single bone. The fish fillet was just a-okay, it was a bit too greasy for me though. However, we all enjoyed the Grilled Prawns which was so good! This is such a fun party platter which is perfect to be shared with the group over rounds of drinks. The next time I visit, I'll try the Rib Sampler which has 3 half slab of Sticky Bones! Yum!
As if the Ocean Feast platter wasn't enough, we also had the Honey Rum Sticky Bones (S$23.90 / S$43.90) which everyone loved! Sweet and smokey, each bite was so delicious it will make you want more! You can also get this as part of the Ocean Feast too. I enjoyed this a lot as it came with a bowl of coleslaw and more fries too!
What a feast! Of course, our meal will never be complete without dessert. Just the perfect way to end a good meal, we had the Chocolate Lava Cake (S$14.90) which was oohhhh-so-sinful but so delish! O, who's a certified chocoholic, gave this his seal of approval. The cake was so moist and the best part really was the gooey fudge inside which is best eaten with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Each bite will make you want to close your eyes and daydream about chocolate heaven.
Non-chocolate fans should try the Bread Pudding (S$9.90). A comforting way to end your meal as it is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream too. Yum!
