Bistroquet Pizza & Grill in Alexandra Retail Centre

When our friend A came to Singapore for his regular business trip, we all cheered! Aside from the fact that we all love A (and his other half D) very much, his visit also gives the Normanton Kids the reason to eat out especially on a weeknight. You see, weeknights for us normally means heading to the gym after work, having home-cooked dinners or putting in more hours at work (yeah, we're all workaholics like that!). Whenever A visits us, we make sure that we get to go out for a nice meal together.

During his recent visit, we decided to check out Bistroquet Pizza & Grill at Alexandra Retail Centre. This is because we got a 1-for-1 deal with the Entertainer App and the restaurant is located very close to home too. To be honest, I've seen Bistroquet since we moved to Singapore but never thought of giving it a try because the restaurant always seems empty whenever we pass by. That evening though, there were two big groups of students for dinner.

While waiting for the others to arrive, we ordered a basket of Truffled Fries with Shaved Parmesan (S$8) for starters. The truffle aroma was very faint that you have to literally place your nose really close to the basket to smell it. The fries looked like it was store-bought and it would have been nicer to have more parmesan cheese. Still, we love fries so we happily munch on this no matter what.

We also tried the Calamari (S$8) which was delicious! Lightly breaded squid rings served with tartare sauce. Nothing fancy about it but it surely has met expectations which was good enough.

For our mains, Paul and I shared the Mushroom on Truffle Paste Pizza (S$22/12") which was delightful! I'm glad though that their pizza was really good as it is part of the restaurant's name. The crust was thin and perfectly baked and each bite gives you a flavorful burst of truffles and mushroom. Very earthy and I love it!

We also tried the Australian Grass-Fed Rib Eye (S$22) and sadly, it was a disappointment. The meat was so tough and chewy that I eventually gave up after 3 bite-sizes. It came with a scoop of mashed potato which tasted very much like the instant ones we can get from the grocery and the coleslaw sported a bright pink color and was quite bland. Definitely not getting this next time.

Across the table, C and I went for the Oceane (S$22) pizza which was pretty good too. Perfectly baked pizza on tomato-based sauce topped with prawns, calamari, mussel and scallop.

Over-all, dinner went quite well with the pizza as the main highlight. It's a good place for a quick meal most especially if you have the 1-for-1 deal making it even more reasonable.

Bag of Beans (Charito) in Tagaytay

I can't believe that we have been frequenting Tagaytay for more than a decade now and not once have I written about Bag of Beans ! I tried searching all over this blog and I found..nothing. To think that not a single trip to Tagaytay, back then, would ever be complete without stopping by Bag of Beans for lunch or merienda. I must have been to engrossed with their coffee and bread that I wasn't able to take photos of the place and their food thus no blog entry. They, after all, have one of the best brewed coffee in Tagaytay and the yummiest bread to go with it too. Bag of Beans has been an institution in Tagaytay. Misto at Seda Vertis North

Happy Friday!  I'm not going to lie, Friday is one of my favorite days because it means, we're just a day away from the weekend! Who doesn't love the weekend, right? This is the day when I give my twins my uninterrupted attention. We would start the day with any breakfast of their choice (normally waffles for J, pancakes or peanut butter sandwich for L) followed by an hour of doing their homework and in the afternoon, we head out for their swim class! Sunday is more laid back as we would stay home and just laze around the house otherwise, we would go and visit my in laws and spend the day there.  Speaking of the weekend, I suddenly remembered one of the best weekends that we've had this year so far. This was when we had our staycation at Seda Vertis North  and the twins truly enjoyed every minute of it.
