Gigi Gaerlan Custaroonery in Manila
It's really rare for my health-conscious Mommy to crave for something sweet. So when we found out that she has been regularly craving for Gigi Gaelan's Custaroons since last year, we knew that this must be something out of the ordinary. In fact, I think it deserves an entire blog post on its own.
Gigi has been making her famous Custaroons for years! My first time to try it was 5 years ago when I received a nice box from a dear blogger friend. I love the combination of the creamy, cheesy custard and having that good nutty bite similar to a macaroon. During my recent trip home, Mommy and I went to visit St. Padre Pio's Chapel in Libis and after saying our prayers and making a quick stop at the chapel store, we headed towards the parking lot where Kuya M was waiting for us. On our way there, we spotted a tiny retail outlet and what do you know?! It's actually a Custaroonery shop! The only one in the entire chapel compound. Interesting.
So while waiting for Kuya M to get the car, we checked the store out and of course, Mommy couldn't resist not buying a box of Half/Half Mini Custaroons (Php. 240/box of 15). I'm so glad she did as I was feeling hungry! I couldn't wait till we get home and quickly opened the box as soon as I got in the car. The way to tell which one is the Original and which ones are the Cheese-flavoured custaroons is by looking at the wrapper. The original custaroons has a dotted-designed wrapper while the cheese custaroons has that damask-styled wrapper similar to Gigi's new logo.
I went for the cheese-flavoured one. Ohhh so delicious! If you love anything creamy and cheesy, then this is your kind of baked treat. I really love biting into the custaroons and getting that tiny coconut bits as I chew. Delicioso!
Well, what can I say?! My Mommy has good taste in food (and with everything else in life) and I can't wait to visit Manila again hopefully she'd buy me a box or two to enjoy. :)
