TEN-riffic Deal at Tenya Tempura Tendon
Today marks the 12th day of being yaya-less. Well, Yaya M was scheduled to come back yesterday and we have agreed on that. Then suddenly, she could hardly be reached almost all day yesterday and just managed to call me late in the afternoon to tell me that she wasn't able to get a bus ticket because the ticketing office was already closed (well, duh..). I had to do multiple deep breaths to hold my peace and patience as my MIL even called to tell me to just take it easy and be patient with her. Don't get me wrong, I rarely get mad at any of our staff or helper but I really do value agreements and word of honor. I just don't get how some people can make promises which they'll eventually break later on. So. Not. Cool.
Luckily, my twins are much bigger now and they can play on their own. They can also take simple instructions so we still can have a bit of breathing time here and there. Paul and I have also attempted to go to the mall without a single nanny and we have survived. Physically exhausted but very happy inside as we got to spend more time with out kids. Even when Yaya M was still around, Paul and I would take the kids to the mall to eat and play just so they won't feel too restless at home. During one of those mall days, we decided to satisfy my craving for tempura and perfectly so, we spotted Tenya Tempura Tendon at SM Megamall!
I guess it was truly meant to be as we went last April 10 and apparently, they have this special promotion wherein you get to enjoy Buy 1 Get 1 on their Classic Tendon Bowls every 10th of the month. Paul and my Mom were so happy about this as they were really planning to get the Classic Tendon anyway. Even Yaya M and my Angkong's nurse P got Classic Tendon Bowls while sharing on this promotion.
Well, the Classic Tendon (Php. 292) is the best choice if you're a big fan of ebi tempura and more! It consists of black tiger prawn, squid, kisu (fish), green beans and sweet potato. It allows you to try a little bit of each yet leaving you truly satisfied and happy. One thing I love about Tenya Tempura Tendon is how they ensure that you get good quality tendon at such affordable price. Even the rice is sticky and well polished, the prawn is that of a good size and even the batter has a good consistency that it doesn't feel like you're eating all batter and none of the seafood or veggies inside.
As for me, I was drawn towards the current promotion which is the Supreme Black Tiger Tendon (Php. 365) which has supreme black tiger prawns, Pacific white shrimp, shrimp poppers, ebi kakiage and served with their signature tempura sauce. This is perfect for those who are crazy over shrimp as you'll surely get some shrimp overload with this bowl. It's a full meal as it also comes with miso soup and your choice of powder/dip for your tempura.
Apart from being served on a bed of Japanese Rice -- Tendon style, you an also try the Teishoku Meal where your tempura is served in a nice bamboo basket together with a bowl of rice and soba at the side. Hello to carbs but it's so so good! J actually loved the soba which we made him try a little bit of. This is because the noodles are very springy and the soup base so tasty.
While browsing through the menu for my drink, the server suggested that I try their promotional drink. It's the Tenya Milk Tea (Php. 115) . What? Milk tea in a Japanese restaurant? I wasn't so sure if I really wanted to try it but the photo on the menu looked really inviting and with the crazy summer heat, anything cold is widely welcome. As opposed to the popular milk tea taste, this one has a stronger tea flavor as it's a combination of Assam and Darjeeling tea and fresh milk. It's light, the sugar level was just right and it's very refreshing nonetheless. If you love tea then you have to try this.
