[RANT] Philippine Passport Renewal : Have Contact Lens? Proceed with Caution

Image
Dear Readers, Allow me to interrupt my regular food blogging to share something that left a really bad taste on the mouth or shall I say a truly traumatizing experience for my sister as she renewed her Philippine Passport yesterday afternoon. A month ago, I personally logged in to the new DFA Passport Appointment System , which I honestly think was pretty cool and modern for our government to have, and took care of scheduling my sister's passport renewal which was set yesterday, January 17 at 130PM. Last night, I repeatedly reminded her to go early as I had a feeling that there might be a line which might cause her some delay for about 30 minutes to an hour. I've read up on the experience of a fellow blogger which made me confident that things over at the DFA has tremendously improved and my sister will be able to have her passport renewed in no time.... ...boy was I WRONG. My sister only took a short break from work to have her passport renewed. She arrived at th

Warning: Hot Crepe, Cold Crepe

Here's a classic story about how service can vary depending on the situation or your customers: Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the media launch of the newest branch of Crepes & Cream at The Atrium of SM Megamall . I was excited to attend this event as I love crepes and I used to frequent their Podium branch a couple of years back. I entered the store and immediately smelled the scent of cooking crepes. The aroma just made my stomach grumble and my mouth to water. Finally, it was my turn to place my order and I got a Kani Mango Crepe (Php. 135) because I found out that they add ebiko in it which is perfect since I'm still on my sushi craving phase . I watched the girl effortlessly prepared my crepe that it got me wondering if it's really that easy to prepare. Here's what she did: First, she poured the batter into the hot skillet pan Next, she spread the batter around and smoothen out the sides Afterwards, she added the remaining ingredients

How an MMDA enforcer can ruin one's night

Today was a pretty easy day. No panic requests, a semi-close deal with an advertiser, an email containing positive remarks from one of my superiors and best of all, I was able to shop -- something that I haven't done for a long time. I had to drop by Robinsons Galleria to do some errands after work. Wanting to be able to reach home to still catch my family awake, I skipped dinner at the mall and opted to just grab something on the way home. I was driving out of the mall's compound exiting via the EDSA opening. I followed the arrows which says "To Greenhills" and waited for the red light to turn green. Unfortunately, a greedy looking, MMDA enforcer saw me and quickly approached my car and tapped on the window. I was dumbfounded. I knew I followed the signs and I have no idea why I was being approached. I politely asked him what my violation was and he can't even give me a straight answer. He asked for my license which I stupidly handed over and began to walk away i

A very disappointing return at Italianni's

Image
Barely two weeks ago, I, together with a handful of bloggers were invited to Italianni's to learn about their newest campaign called Extra Surprises. I was so excited and impressed by it that I immediately wrote about to it spread the good news to everyone . Today, I went out with my grandparents and have decided to treat them to dinner using the gift certificates that I have received from the event. My grandpa loves Italianni's and I figured out that it would be a perfect post-birthday treat for him. We ordered the Seafood Risotto , Chicken Marsala and the Pork Chop Au Poivre . I was so excited to see the look on their faces when our extra dish would be served. Knowing that we ordered three main course dishes, I was kinda hoping that we'd either be treated to an extra appetizer or perhaps a cold salad or probably a sweet dessert to end our meal. I have also tipped our friendly server that it's my Grandpa's birthday knowing that they normally prepare something spec

Som's Noodle House

"It would take years to build a relationship and seconds to destroy it..." This famous marketing mantra has proven itself true last weekend when Paul and I ate at Som's Noodle House in Tomas Morato. After hearing all the raves and being able to dine in their former branch in Reposo myself, I was dead set on bringing Paul along on my next visit to allow him to enjoy the authentic yet very affordable Thai dishes that this restaurant was known for. It wasn't difficult to secure a table because this branch was spacious enough with 10 rectangular-sized tables that's good for 5-6 guests each. After handing us our menu, the waitress informed us that they have ran out of noodles and shrimp. HUWAT?! "So no more Phad Thai for tonight... well, it was almost past 8 and business must have been really good that day," I thought. To make the most of our visit, we settled for Catfish Salad, Green Curry Chicken, Spring roll and Tofu Togue. The salad was very small consi

sour service after a mini frozen delight (ugh!)

After a delicious dinner at Guilly Island last night, Paul and I were both craving for something sweet. Would a slice of chocolate cake suffice? nah... How about a bowl of mais con yelo or halo halo? maybe not... We were just circling around Greenhills, wasting precious gasoline and still clueless on what to have for dessert. Finally, Paul suggested that we drive to Aurora Boulevard and see if Nestle Creamery is still open. Yay! I think i am in the mood for ice cream Ü It wasnt a long drive to Aurora Boulevard, but since it was almost 10:30PM, sadly our favorite childhood ice cream parlor is already closed :( drats..so where to next. Then Paul noticed a small Magnolia store across the street. Hmm.. could it be a Magnolia ice parlor hoping to rival against Nestle? We drove over to the other side and true enough it is a tiny (at in super mini compared to their competitor across) ice cream shop by Magnolia. At first glance, the ambiance isnt much, it somehow looks like an old fast food

Rant: Nacho Fast Podium

Image
I love nachos! I particularly like it with beef paired with either cheese or salsa or both. However, no matter how much i love this type of snack, i always believe that hygiene and other QA factors will always be at the top of my list (and i think this makes perfect sense). After shopping at Podium last saturday, my sister and I were both craving for nachos. Our initial plan was to dine at Fuzion and avail of their free nachos but sadly there were no available tables and it looks like there won't be any for the next 30 minutes or so. So we moved to plan b. We decided to try NYPD and to satisfy our craving, i'll buy nachos from the Nacho Fast stall nearby. On Nacho Fast Being a nacho fan, I can say i am a regular of Nacho Fast Rockwell where i would buy a bag of chips to take home with me. On other occasions, this is also where my friends and i would have lunch if we want something fast and yummy. Thus, I am not a newbie on this brand of nachos and i can say that they have one
